Artists In Swampscott Ma

Swampscott Artists - Swampscott is a small beach community located just north of Lynn, Massachusetts that, with its tranquil and unpretentiously picturesque setting, provides a haven for the artistic and the bohemian. As a result, Swampscott, Massachusetts has been blessed with artists of all kinds since its beginnings in the seventeenth century. A number of organizations have sprouted through the years to promote, facilitate and supports artists who are local to Swampscott, Massachusetts and its vicinity.

> The Swampscott Arts Association. Finally and at long last, the artists of Swampscott decided to meet up at the Swampscott Public Library in 1973 with the intent of joining forces and establishing a charter membership, of drafting a mission statement and of finding a site in which their long overdue organization could cultivate and support the local artists and their individual arts. Thus the Swampscott Arts Association was created. An official and permanent home for the Swampscott Arts Association was found in 1997 when the local community college, the Marian Court College of Swampscott, proposed that the two entities, the Swampscott Arts Association and the Marian Court College, form an alliance. With its membership open to local artists of every kind as well as to art lovers, the non-juried Swampscott Arts Association has been rapidly growing and flourishing ever since.

The Swampscott Arts Association holds three annual shows (in the Fall, Winter and Spring) in which artists may choose to compete for cash in addition to ribbon prizes. Each one of these successful and well attended art shows is open to the public at large and at no cost to them. The Swampscott Arts Association also offers free art demonstrations, a weekly (weather allowing) “plein air” painting group that is free to its members, and a wide range of other art related events.

Being true to their mission statement “to foster and encourage the arts within the community,” the Swampscott Arts Association has established an art scholarship to be awarded to the most promising art student who is annually selected by the head of the art department at the Swampscott High School. Also in concert with their mission statement, artist members of the Swampscott Arts Association support the Marian Court College of Swampscott by donating their artwork to the annual auction fundraiser.

> Swampscott Cultural Council (SCC). This is a not-for-profit organization within the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is exclusively operated by appointed volunteers. The Swampscott Cultural Council is devoted to advancing all types and styles of art and is focused on sustaining the local community in its quest for the facilities and the environments which are conducive to artists and their particular works.
