Swampscott Real Estate

REAL ESTATE IN SWAMPSCOTT, MASSACHUSETTS

Have you ever wondered what the term “real estate” really means and where does it originate from? I have. As a matter of fact, I have wondered about that long enough so that I finally decided to do some research and I would like, if you don’t mind, to share my findings with you here and now.

The word “real” originates from the French word “royale” which means “royal” or belonging to the king and its Spanish equivalent is “real.” The word “estate” originates from the Latin word for status, condition or state. The term “real estate” which was first found in historical accounts in 1666, therefore, originally meant “royal estate” because all lands were the properties of the king during the feudalistic era and its status was subject to his discretion alone. The king could decide to lease his royal lands out, to give his royal lands away, or to keep his royal lands as his personal possessions.

Today and in the United States, “real estate” is a legal expression that includes land along with anything and everything that is permanently attached to the land in question, such as buildings and all other stationary and immovable structures. “Real estate” is sometimes also referred to as real property but it is very different from personal property which refers to movable and portable items such as furniture, clothing, jewelry, and so on.

“Real estate” can be divided into two broad categories: commercial and residential. Commercial real estate includes apartment buildings that are used as income property, office buildings, industrial structures, gas stations, shopping malls and commercial centers and much more. Residential real estate, on the other hand, is used primarily as housing and it includes apartments, condominiums and town homes, single family dwellings, mobile homes, houseboats and so forth. Of course, each of the categories listed for both commercial and residential real estate can be further subcategorized.

Now that we have both contemplated these highly simplified explanations about “real estate” and its origins, let us discuss real estate in the most beautiful little New England coastal town called Swampscott, Massachusetts. We could hit the pavement and search out “For Sale” or “For Rent” or “For Lease” signs. We could brows threw real estate sections of any number of newspapers or we could click our way from one real estate website to another until our fingers will click no more. Or we could do something much more efficient and a whole lot more effective — we could go to a single website that will save us a tremendous amount of time, oodles of energy and prevent us from useless rummaging. And the website which I am talking about is HomeGain.com at http://www.homegain.com/local_real_estate/MA/swampscott.html where we will find Swampscott homes for sale, a broad selection of Swampscott real estate brokers or agents and helpful studies relating to Swampscott home values.
